BARNABÁS R KISS

visual artist

I’m an all-around creative based in Budapest. I was always fascinated by arts. After taking drawing classes in primary school, I studied graphic design during high school at Tibor Tatai’s studio. At the end of my high school years, my interests shifted towards electronic music. Torn between music and visual arts, I chose the Media Faculty at University of Pécs, for my academic studies – as a kind of compromise – where I graduated with a degree in Electronic Music and Media Arts in 2016. After my university years, I challenged myself in many fields: I became a self-taught sound engineer, I worked in audio post production teams in movies, created sound design for apps and videos and also wrote compositions for contemporary dance pieces. In 2018, I co-founded RAVEU, a musical collective focusing on the revival of the 90’s rave culture. Since it’s a low-budget organization, we solved most of our problems in-house – that’s where my graphic design and media studies came in handy. As the project progressed, I’ve developed art direction, organization, management, as well as deeper branding and graphic design skills. After the lockdown of clubs due to the pandemic in 2020, I realized, that I was not missing the music and party scene as much, but I’m more interested in visual arts in general. That was the point, when I decided to step on the path of art direction, where I can put my vast field of interests to the best use; I’ve been gaining practical and theoretical knowledge ever since then; I even learned some web development while designing this page, so I have some understanding of HTML and CSS, plus a little bit of JavaScript.
